The engineers at ARUP commissioned Fine Concrete to showcase cutting edge material design in UHPC for their LA headquarters. We prototyped and worked with their team of engineers and lighting designers to fabricate their design in a cantilevered stair taking advantage of both the compressive and tensile strength of the design mix.

A recess in the underside of the span accepts a lighting fixture that illuminates and rakes along the underside of each tread, giving the appearance of a hovering plane of concrete within the steel stringers.
