The modular shelter system was originally designed and patented by Richard Dattner FAIA in 1998. The introduction of UHPC, allows the re-introduction of this dramatic form in a stronger, fireproof, vandal-resistant, and more permanent material. This biomorphic design is cast only 3/4” thick with exposed ribs to express the structural needs of the form. The four sheltering sections are connected to form a 20’ x 20’ canopy and are supported by a hollow central column that drains though the middle and contains internal conduit for lighting. They can be erected individually or assembled in limitless combinations on cast-in-place footings engineered to meet site conditions.
